We will not go with any other political parties and fight alone with people's support, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said while talking about her party's chances of forming an alliance for the 2024 general elections.
“In 2024, we will see an alliance between the Trinamool and the people. We will not go with any of the other political parties. We will fight alone with the support of the people. Those who want to defeat the BJP, I believe they will vote for us,” the chief minister was quoted as saying.
Referring to the Congress's victory in the Sagardighi bypolls and the BJP's victory in the Tripura Assembly polls, Mamata Banerjee on Thursday claimed that those who vote for the CPI(M) or the Congress party are actually voting for the BJP.
Following the victory of the TMC and the Congress in the Sagardighi bypolls, there was political unrest, with both parties accusing each other of acting in the interests of the BJP. The TMC also failed to make a dent in the Tripura Assembly elections, ending up empty-handed with even less than 1% vote share.
IMMORAL ALLIANCE
Mamata Banerjee attributed her party's defeat in the Sagardighi by-election to the “immoral alliance” the Congress is trying to make with the BJP. “I am not blaming anyone for our defeat in the Sagardighi by-election. But we strongly condemn the immoral alliance between Congress and BJP,” Mamata Banerjee said.
“If we count BJP's vote percentage, this time they transferred their vote to Congress party. So Congress had the votes of Congress and CPIM combined plus BJP transferred its votes to them,” said a top TMC official.
