Mamata calls urgent meeting at Nabanna tomorrow, key administrative officials to attend
The house of Trinamool Congress Councilor Selim Akhtar Ansari in Kulti was sealed on Friday due to a loan default. The Aadhar Home Finance Company took legal action after Selim Akhtar and his brother Shamim Akhtar Ansari failed to repay a loan of Rs. 19 lakh, originally taken in 2018. Due to non-repayment, the loan amount had accrued interest, growing to Rs. 32 lakh. The company, after years of attempts to recover the loan, filed a case in court, which led to the issuance of a seizure order.
The house is located in the Patiana locality of Ward No. 63 in Kulti. The sealing operation was carried out by representatives of the Aadhar Home Finance Company, in collaboration with Kulti police. Following the court order, the company’s officials, assisted by police, entered the property, evicted the residents, and sealed the house. Local witnesses confirmed that the house was securely locked by officials after the eviction.
A representative from the loan provider stated that the company had been sending notices to Selim Akhtar and Shamim Akhtar Ansari for four years, seeking repayment. The company explained that the loan had increased from Rs. 19 lakh to Rs. 32 lakh due to the failure to repay the amount over time. Despite multiple reminders, the brothers did not settle the outstanding amount, prompting the company to take legal recourse, culminating in the court order to seize the property.
Local residents have reported that Selim Akhtar has been missing for over a month. His brother, Shamim, confirmed that Selim, along with his family, had left the house and their whereabouts were unknown. Shamim also mentioned that they had appealed for more time to repay the loan, requesting an additional month, but their appeal was rejected by the company. As a result, the property was seized as per the court’s directive.
Selim Akhtar has been embroiled in several controversies in recent years. He faced accusations of ration distribution corruption, which led to an investigation by the Food Department and the eventual sealing of his ration shop. After the sealing, Selim reportedly went into hiding. Additionally, he was accused of taking bribes in exchange for municipal job placements, further damaging his reputation.
In October, Selim received a threat letter warning him to be cautious, which he reportedly took seriously. Since then, Selim has not been seen in public, and his family has also remained out of sight. The loan default and the subsequent property seizure add to the ongoing legal and financial troubles for the councilor. The case highlights the growing list of controversies surrounding Selim Akhtar and his involvement in legal and financial disputes.
