Kolkata metro to be extended till Hooghly's Chuchura? Here's what Railway minister says
A newly installed speed breaker near Ghantaghar Chowk in Dehradun has become a major traffic hazard, with multiple accidents occurring in a short period. On the evening of the incident, seven accidents were reported within just 15 minutes. Among those injured, a three-year-old child was thrown off a motorcycle and suffered injuries after falling when the vehicle was jolted by the speed breaker. The child was reportedly traveling with their parents at the time of the accident.
The speed breaker, constructed as part of road safety measures in Dehradun, has been criticized for its height and design. According to local sources, the breaker is higher than typical speed bumps, causing vehicles, especially two-wheelers, to lose control when crossing it. This has led to several vehicles being thrown into the air, with drivers unable to maintain control, resulting in multiple collisions.
The construction of the speed breaker was part of a broader initiative under the direction of District Magistrate Savin Bansal to improve road safety in Dehradun. The initiative involved installing speed breakers, stop lines, and dividers in various parts of the city. Local authorities, including the executive engineer and nodal officer, supervised these improvements, with the intention of reducing traffic accidents and enhancing pedestrian safety.
Following the series of accidents at Ghantaghar Chowk, local authorities have decided to review the design of the speed breaker. The executive engineer and nodal officer are expected to assess the height and placement of the speed breaker to address concerns about its safety. In addition, officials are considering modifications to prevent further accidents, as the current design appears to be ill-suited for the area’s traffic flow.
