Hindu group calls for Ram Mandir in every constituency over Humayun Kabir's Babri remark
Four months after the discovery of Abhaya’s body on August 9, 2024, in the seminar hall of RG Kar Hospital, her family continues to demand justice. The Kolkata Police made an arrest within 24 hours, detaining a civic volunteer. However, after the Kolkata High Court intervened, the investigation was transferred to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The family had hoped for a swift resolution, but delays have continued, and they remain without clear answers.
On Tuesday, the Supreme Court postponed the next hearing of the case by three months, scheduling it for March 17, 2025. This delay follows a previous deferral, further frustrating the family. They had been expecting faster judicial proceedings, but the postponed hearing has only extended the waiting period. The family has not received any concrete updates regarding the investigation, adding to their distress as they continue to search for answers.
The investigation by the CBI has been met with criticism from Abhaya’s family, particularly regarding the agency’s communication and transparency. The CBI had initially assured the family that they would be kept informed of all developments, including the submission of the charge sheet. However, the charge sheet was submitted to the Sealdah Court without prior notice to the family. Additionally, despite repeated requests, the CBI has not provided any updates on a supplementary charge sheet or further developments in the case.
Abhaya’s parents have expressed their frustration with the lack of clarity regarding their daughter’s death. They are still uncertain about the cause of her death and the circumstances surrounding it. The family is determined to continue their fight for justice, but they remain concerned about the prolonged investigation and the slow pace of legal proceedings. With no resolution in sight, they continue to push for answers and accountability from the authorities involved in the case.
