Jammu and Kashmir hit by 5.8 magnitude earthquake, no casualties reported
In a tragic incident in Hooghly’s Phatakgora area, 23-year-old Sushrika Dutta was found dead in her home after reportedly facing rejection and humiliation at a local Jagaddhatri Puja mandap. A member of the Chandannagar Phatakora Jagaddhatri Puja Committee, Sushrika had taken her pet dog to the mandap, where a senior committee member objected and reprimanded her. Distressed by the response, she expressed her feelings on social media. The Puja Committee responded to her post, prompting her to delete it but later post another message hinting at her distress.
On Saturday night, after her parents had briefly left home, they returned to a devastating sight: Sushrika had taken her life. Police have filed an unnatural death case and are investigating further, while her father holds the committee partially responsible for her distress. The Puja Committee has expressed sorrow over the incident but denies involvement, explaining that the mandap was crowded, and the request to leave with the pet was a simple one. This incident has stirred public outrage, with some pointing blame at the Puja Committee's handling of the situation.
