Potato traders to go on strike if Bengal doesn’t allow selling to other states
The Indian Medical Association (IMA) is organizing a nationwide fast on October 15, 2024, from 6 AM to 6 PM, in solidarity with junior doctors protesting the rape and murder of a trainee doctor at R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata. This comes as the protesting doctors enter the ninth day of a fast-unto-death, with three already hospitalized due to health complications.
The IMA's Junior Doctors Network (JDN) and Medical Students Network will lead the protest, encouraging doctors across medical campuses in India to join the action. IMA has urged all office bearers and resident doctors to participate and coordinate local activities in support of their colleagues in West Bengal.
In a formal statement, IMA National President Dr. RV Asokan expressed concern for the fasting doctors and highlighted the growing public support for their cause. The IMA has made a direct appeal to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, urging her to address the legitimate demands of the protesting doctors.
In addition to the nationwide fast, private hospitals in West Bengal have announced a partial strike lasting 48 hours, beginning at 6 AM on October 14 and ending at 6 AM on October 16. During this period, only emergency medical services will remain operational.
