The state government has issued a series of directives to enhance healthcare facilities' safety, security, and efficiency nationwide. These measures aim to improve working conditions for healthcare professionals while ensuring better healthcare services for all citizens.
Among the key directives is the mandate to ensure adequate availability of essential facilities, such as Duty Rooms, Washrooms, CCTV cameras, and Drinking Water at all healthcare facilities. These works are to be completed swiftly, with medical colleges, hospitals, and other institutions urged to coordinate with all stakeholders for seamless implementation.
To address security concerns, the government has appointed Shri Surajit Kar Purkayastha, IPS (retd) and former DGP of West Bengal, to conduct a security audit of all medical colleges and hospitals. Cooperation from relevant departments is crucial to completing this audit effectively.
Additionally, the government has instructed the deployment of adequate police and security personnel, including female officers, across healthcare facilities in coordination with the Home Department. Mobile police surveillance, particularly during night hours, will also be initiated to boost security.
A Centralized Helpline system for healthcare personnel’s safety will be established in every facility. Panic button alarm systems, access control mechanisms, and a real-time bed availability information system will also be operationalized to improve security and service delivery.
Moreover, a centralized referral system is to be set up, vacant healthcare positions filled urgently, and a robust grievance redressal system created to address concerns from patients, healthcare professionals, and other stakeholders.
These directives aim to improve healthcare services and ensure a safer environment for both healthcare workers and patients. All stakeholders are reminded to work collectively to meet these objectives, with progress reports expected to be submitted to the State Level Task Force.
