Darjeeling zoo first in India to house both Siberian and White tigers
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) revealed on Wednesday that Kolkata's Tala Police delayed the seizure of key evidence in the RG Kar hospital rape-murder case. Sanjay Roy, the main accused, was not stripped of his clothing or belongings for two days, despite his involvement in the crime becoming apparent on August 10. The delay, according to CBI officials, could have impacted the collection of strong evidence against him.
The incident involved the rape and murder of a trainee doctor who had been sleeping in the hospital's seminar hall when she was attacked. CCTV footage showed Roy entering the hall, making his role in the crime evident. Despite this, Tala Police's inaction raised suspicions about their handling of the case.
The CBI took over the investigation on August 14, five days after the crime. Last week, the agency arrested the former principal of RG Kar Hospital, Sandip Ghosh, and Tala Police station-in-charge Abhijit Mondal. Both are accused of tampering with evidence, and the CBI has alleged that they were evasive during interrogations. The agency is now probing a potential criminal conspiracy involving Roy, Ghosh, and Mondal. Investigators plan to analyze phone records and CCTV footage to determine if a deliberate attempt was made to destroy evidence.
