Defending champions India secured their second consecutive win in the Men's Asian Champions Trophy hockey tournament, defeating Japan 5-1 on Monday. Sukhjeet Singh starred with a brace, scoring in the second and final minutes of the match.
Abhishek (3rd minute), Sanjay (17th minute), and Uttam Singh (54th minute) also contributed to India’s commanding performance. Japan managed to pull one back through Matsumoto Kazumasa in the 41st minute.
India, who beat China 3-0 in their opener, dominated the game with two penalty corners, while Japan had five but couldn’t capitalize. India will next face Malaysia, last edition's runners-up, on Wednesday after a rest day on Tuesday.
The top four teams from the round-robin league will advance to the semifinals on September 16, with the final scheduled for September 17.
