Union Minister and West Bengal BJP president Sukanta Majumdar was detained by police on Friday during a protest against the brutal rape and murder incident at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata. The incident, which occurred on August 9, has sparked widespread outrage and demands for justice across the state.
Majumdar, who was leading the protest, was taken into custody along with several other protesters. Despite the detention, the BJP leader remained defiant, asserting that the actions of the police would not deter their fight for justice. "We will not be intimidated by TMC police. Our resolve remains unshaken. We will continue to fight for justice with unwavering determination," Majumdar stated.
He further criticized the police, suggesting that their attempts to stifle free speech through notices and detentions would not succeed. The BJP has been vocal in its condemnation of the West Bengal government's handling of the incident and has called for stronger action to ensure justice for the victim.
The protest and subsequent detention of Majumdar add to the growing tension in West Bengal, where public anger over the incident has led to numerous rallies and calls for severe punishment for those involved in the crime.
