SC halts mosque survey orders, restricts lower courts in pending cases
Hours after asking the Bengal government to remove the State Education Minister, Bartya Basu from Cabinet, the WB Governor Dr. CV Anand Bose has ordered a judicial inquiry. This inquirey will deal with corruption, violence, and the misuse of university campuses in West Bengal for electioneering and political purposes. The inquiry will be conducted by a one-man Commission headed by a retired Judge of the Honorable Supreme Court or High Court.
Governor recently recommended the removal of State Education Minister Bratya Basu from his position as Education Minister, a move that Basu labelled as 'laughable', further alleging that the Governor is 'misusing his constitutional powers'.
The Governor's statement came days after a political meeting was held at Gour Banga University under the leadership and presence of Basu with other ministers, MPs, MLAs, and political leaders on March 30.
"In light of the meeting held in Gour Banga University under the leadership and presence of Basu with other ministers, MPs, MLAs, and political leaders on March 30, the chancellor has directed the state government to take strict action against him for deliberately violating the MCC, including his removal from the cabinet," a Raj Bhavan statement to Bengal government read.
