Addressing the recent arrest of Sheikh Sajahan, the main accused in the Sandeshkhali unrest, Governor Bose remarked, "Today in Bengal we are seeing the beginning of the end. The arrest of the main accused in the Sandeshkhali incident is an eye-opener for everyone. We have to end violence in Bengal."
He further stated, "I told you that there will be light at the end of the tunnel. That is democracy. We waited, but it has been done. This is a lesson for everyone. Now, let’s hope a new dawn of lawfulness will come back to Bengal."
Earlier in the week, the Governor had set a 72-hour "deadline" for the state government to apprehend the TMC leader. The West Bengal Police acted swiftly, arresting Sheikh Sajahan on Thursday morning in Minakhan, approximately 30 kilometers from the island of Sandeshkhali. Following his arrest, he was produced before the Basirhat court, which remanded him in police custody for 10 days.
