Governor of West Bengal makes surprise visit to Calcutta University

Calcutta University was taken by surprise on Monday morning when Governor CV Anand Bose made a sudden visit to the campus. University officials and even the police were reportedly unaware of his arrival on the first working day of the week. The Governor's convoy arrived at the Ashutosh campus of Calcutta University at College Street at around 11 am.

Upon reaching the University, Governor Bose held a meeting with the Vice Chancellor and the Registrar, though the details of the discussion were not immediately made public. Raj Bhavan, the Governor's residence, also declined to comment on the matter.

Sources within the university administration revealed that the Vice Chancellor was not present when the Governor arrived and had to be summoned, arriving approximately 7 minutes later. The Governor's visit comes amidst recent instructions from Raj Bhavan that have increased the "distance" between it and Navanna.

Under the new instruction, interim Vice-Chancellors of state universities are required to submit weekly reports of their work to the Vice Chancellor at Raj Bhavan, with all financial transactions requiring prior approval from Governor Bose.

The surprise visit has left many within Calcutta University curious as to the nature of the discussion between the Governor and the university officials, with some speculating that it may be related to the recent changes in protocol.
