The West Bengal state government has submitted a report to the Calcutta High Court detailing the events of the clashes and violence that took place during the Ram Navami procession in Risda, Hooghly district on April 2. The report holds the participants in the procession responsible for the violence that occurred.
According to the report submitted by the Chandannagar Police Commissionerate, the people involved in the procession initiated the violence. The state government submitted the report in the form of an affidavit, enclosed in a sealed envelope, on April 1. Sources within the Calcutta High Court have confirmed that the report exclusively blames the processionists for the violence.
The report mentions that the participants in the procession were "provoking" the locals with their "abusive and objectionable" language from the very beginning of the procession. It goes on to state that initially, a section of the processionists was limited to using objectionable language, but later, some of them began pelting stones at the locals.
The clashes during the Ram Navami procession at Rishra resulted in the injury of several people, and the incident has sparked tensions between different communities in the area. The West Bengal government's report submitted to the Calcutta High Court is expected to provide important insights into the sequence of events leading up to the violence and may serve as a basis for further action against those involved.
