'Was a minister, not involved in appointments': Partha

Former Education Minister Partha Chatterjee, who has been arrested in a corruption case related to teacher appointments, has reiterated his claim that he played no role in the appointment process.

During his appearance in the special CBI court on Thursday, he stated that he was a minister and did not have the authority to make appointments. The responsibility for appointments rested with the officers in charge. He asserted that he has always been against corruption and never supported it.

Chatterjee also highlighted that the Board of Education, which includes the SSC and the Board of Primary Education, follows its own rules. On Thursday, Chatterjee and 13 other accused appeared in court in connection with the corruption case.

The central agency has accused Chatterjee of being the main mastermind behind the corruption and alleges that his advisors conspired to carry out corrupt appointments based on his instructions.
