Speeding bus mows down pedestrian at MG Road more, driver flee
A 35-year-old man was killed on the spot and another man injured when the bike they were riding was hit from behind by a bus along Nuagaon on Hata-Haldipokhar road under Kowali thana area about 21 km away on Saturday morning.
The victims were on their way to the weekly Haat in Haldipokhar from their homes in Gitilata area for shopping when the mishap occurred. The killed was identified as Ravi Gope and the injured was identified as Jiten Bhagat.
After causing the mishap, the bus driver tried to escape by accelerating the bus, but some passers-by chased the vehicle and intercepted it about two km away. People handed over the driver after a thorough beating for reckless driving in a crowded place.
Kowali thana OC, Ranjit Oraon, who reached the spot, immediately rescued the victims and shifted them to MGM Medical College Hospital. Ravi Gope was pronounced dead by emergency room doctors.
It may be mentioned here that Hata-Haldipokhar road used to have a sufficient number of speed breakers but during the road widening work in the recent past, these speed breakers became non-existent, leading to an accident.
