Clashes broke out between the police and members of the Student Federation of India (SFI), a Leftist student organization, in Kolkata. The SFI had planned an assembly campaign, but the police denied permission for it. Despite this, the SFI persisted with their plans, leading to a clash with the police.
The clashes occurred in Howrah and Sealdah, resulting in the arrest of several SFI members by the police. The disruptions caused by the clashes have led to traffic problems and inconvenience for the general public.
On Friday morning, the police reiterated that permission had not been granted for the rally. The reason given was that examinations were taking place, and the road could not be blocked in any way.
