Youth dies after alleged beating at South Garia drug rehab, family vandalizes centre in protest
A deadly accident on the Agra-Lucknow Expressway early Monday morning has claimed the lives of five doctors and left one critically injured. The victims were postgraduate medical trainees from the Uttar Pradesh University of Medical Sciences in Saifai, who were returning from a wedding function in Lucknow. The incident occurred around 3:30 a.m. when the Scorpio SUV they were traveling in lost control, broke through the median divider, and collided head-on with a truck traveling in the opposite direction.
The crash occurred on the stretch of the expressway between Lucknow and Agra. According to the police, the driver of the Scorpio SUV lost control of the vehicle, causing it to veer across the median and into the opposite lane, where it crashed into a truck. The driver is suspected to have fallen asleep, leading to the tragic accident, though this is still under investigation.
The five deceased doctors were identified as Dr. Aniruddh Verma, Dr. Santosh Kumar Maurya, Dr. Jaiveer Singh, Dr. Arun Kumar, and Dr. Nardev. The critically injured doctor, who sustained serious head injuries, was immediately taken to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. As per reports, the injured doctor remains in a critical condition.
Priyanka Bajpai, Circle Officer of Tirwa, confirmed the details of the accident, stating, "Around 3:30 a.m. today, a Scorpio SUV traveling from Lucknow towards Agra lost its balance, broke through the divider, and entered the parallel lane. It crashed into a truck coming from the opposite direction. Five people in the SUV have died, and one is under treatment." She also stated that all victims were doctors or lab technicians associated with the Saifai hospital.
The crash site showed the heavily damaged remains of the SUV, highlighting the severity of the impact. Local authorities are conducting a thorough investigation to determine the exact cause of the crash. The police are reviewing the circumstances surrounding the accident and are also considering the possibility of driver fatigue. The families of the deceased have been informed, and further steps will be taken following the ongoing investigation.
