Jharkhand butcher kills live-in partner, chops body into 50 pieces in forest

A 25-year-old butcher, Naresh Bhengra, has been arrested for allegedly murdering his live-in partner and dismembering her body into 40 to 50 pieces in a forest near Jordag village in Jharkhand’s Khunti district. The crime, which occurred on November 8, was discovered on November 24 when locals found a stray dog carrying a severed human hand, prompting a police investigation.

The victim, a 24-year-old woman, had been in a live-in relationship with Bhengra in Tamil Nadu for several years. Bhengra recently returned to Jharkhand and secretly married another woman. Despite his marriage, he persuaded his live-in partner to travel with him to Jharkhand. After arriving in Ranchi, the two boarded a train to Khunti and took an autorickshaw to a forested area near Bhengra’s village.

Inspector Ashok Singh, who is leading the investigation, stated that Bhengra lured the victim deeper into the forest and strangled her with a dupatta. He then used sharp tools to dismember her body into multiple pieces. Singh noted that Bhengra, who worked at a butcher shop in Tamil Nadu, had experience in handling and slicing meat. Bhengra left the dismembered body in the forest, intending for wild animals to dispose of the remains.

Police discovered a bag at the crime scene containing the victim’s belongings, including an Aadhaar card, which helped in identifying her. The victim’s mother, who had been informed by her daughter about traveling to live with Bhengra, was called to identify the items. She confirmed that the belongings were her daughter’s and suspected Bhengra’s involvement.

Following his arrest, Bhengra admitted to the crime during questioning. Police have recovered several body parts and continue to search for the remaining remains. Bhengra remains in custody as the investigation progresses, with forensic examinations and further evidence collection ongoing.
