Hemant Soren may take oath as Jharkhand CM alone, Cabinet to be sworn in later
Jadavpur University is currently facing significant unrest with multiple issues impacting its campus. The first major controversy involves allegations of exam malpractice in the Mass Communication department. Students have raised concerns that marks were awarded without internal exam scripts being properly evaluated. The issue escalated when the department head showed the exam papers to students, confirming that the scripts had not been reviewed before marks were assigned. As a result, the university issued show-cause notices to two professors involved in the grading process. The Jadavpur University Teachers' Association (JUTA) has called for their removal from the exam evaluation duties.
Simultaneously, corruption allegations have emerged within the Department of International Relations regarding the PhD admission process. Faculty members and students have claimed that there were irregularities and favoritism in the admissions. A member of the departmental investigation committee resigned in connection with the probe into the PhD admissions, further adding to the controversy. These developments have drawn attention to the university's internal processes and raised questions about fairness in academic procedures.
Another significant issue has been the violent clashes between student groups on campus. On Tuesday evening, a confrontation broke out between the Democratic Students' Federation (DSF) and the Students' Federation of India (SFI) over a dispute involving torn flex banners. The violence escalated, and students have accused the campus security of failing to intervene during the altercation. The Dean of Students stated that the issue of campus security is under the jurisdiction of the registrar, but the lack of action by security personnel has prompted further scrutiny.
Amid these controversies, the university administration is under pressure to address the ongoing issues related to academic integrity, security, and campus governance. Investigations into the allegations of exam malpractice, corruption, and student violence are underway. The outcomes of these inquiries and any subsequent actions will determine the university’s ability to resolve the unrest and restore stability on campus.
