Digha police bust major prostitution racket at spa, 4 arrested, 7 women rescued

Digha police carried out a significant raid at a spa located near the Old Digha bypass on Thursday night, uncovering a large-scale prostitution racket. The raid was based on information received about illicit activities occurring within the establishment. Upon entering the premises, police discovered that the spa was being used as a front for illegal sex trade operations. The raid resulted in the arrest of four individuals: Byomkesh Patra, the spa owner; Dipankar Payra, Shubham Debnath, and Subrata Adak, who were all involved in the operation. The suspects are facing charges of human trafficking, prostitution, and running an illegal business.

Seven women, who were reportedly being exploited as part of the operation, were rescued during the raid. According to police reports, the women came from different districts of West Bengal, including Howrah and South 24 Parganas. They were provided with immediate support and taken to a safe location for further assistance. Authorities have not disclosed further details about the victims’ current status, but the police confirmed that they are being cared for under appropriate legal and social protocols.

Following the arrests, the accused individuals were presented before the local court in Kanthi. Legal proceedings have been initiated, and the investigation into the operation is ongoing. Police have gathered substantial evidence linking the arrested individuals to the illegal activities at the spa. The police have also indicated that the investigation could expand, as they believe the racket may involve other locations in the region.

The raid is part of a series of ongoing efforts by Digha police to curb illegal activities, particularly human trafficking and prostitution, in the coastal areas of Digha and Mandarmani. The police have previously received multiple reports about similar illegal operations taking place in hotels, spas, and guesthouses in these regions. Authorities have stated that this raid is just one of many planned actions aimed at dismantling prostitution rackets in the area. Police have vowed to continue their vigilance and operations to protect the community and visitors from such criminal activities.
