Congress releases poll manifesto day before polls, promises caste-based census & sarna code

The Congress party on Tuesday unveiled its manifesto for the upcoming Jharkhand Assembly elections, emphasizing promises aimed at improving the welfare of the people, particularly the tribal communities. Bandhu Tirkey, the chairman of the party's manifesto committee, presented the manifesto, which is centered around key issues like tribal rights, public welfare, and government employment.

One of the standout promises in the manifesto is the provision of 250 units of free electricity for the poor, an increase from the current 200 units. Additionally, Congress pledged to complete all pending government job appointments within a year. This reflects the party's commitment to providing immediate relief to the public if elected.

The manifesto also outlines the implementation of a 1932 Khatiyan-based domicile policy, which will ensure that only residents with ancestral land rights in Jharkhand will be considered for government jobs and benefits. Another important promise is the introduction of a Sarna religious code, a significant demand by tribal communities, to recognize their distinct religious identity.

Tirkey stated, "The manifesto promises free electricity up to 250 units for the poor and an increase from the current 200 units. Additionally, all vacant government posts will be filled within a year." He further mentioned the party’s focus on tribal rights and emphasized that the manifesto was drafted after extensive public consultations, including "Chaupals" held in every district to engage with the community directly.
