Car plunges from under-construction bridge while following GPS, 3 dead

A tragic accident occurred on Sunday morning when a car plunged into the Ramganga River from an under-construction bridge on the Khalpur-Dataganj road in Badaun district, Uttar Pradesh. Three individuals lost their lives in the mishap, which took place around 10 am as the victims were en route from Bareilly to Dataganj.

According to the police, the car was being navigated using GPS when it drove through a damaged portion of the bridge. The front section of the bridge had collapsed during floods earlier this year, but this change was not updated on the GPS maps, misleading the driver into believing the route was safe.

“The absence of safety barriers or warning signs on the under-construction bridge exacerbated the danger. This critical oversight led to the fatal plunge,” said Circle Officer Ashutosh Shivam. Police teams from Faridpur, Bareilly, and Dataganj stations were dispatched to the site to retrieve the vehicle and the victims' bodies from the river.

The victims, who were reportedly travelling at high speed, are yet to be identified. Their bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination, and further investigations are ongoing to establish the exact circumstances leading to the tragedy.
