BSF seizes 90 lakh worth of gold bars in foiled smuggling attempt at Nadia border

The Border Security Force (BSF) thwarted a gold smuggling attempt at the international border in Nadia, West Bengal, recovering nearly 90 lakh rupees worth of gold. The incident occurred near the Natna border post, where two individuals, suspected of smuggling gold, were attempting to bring the contraband from Bangladesh into India. The BSF had received prior intelligence about the smuggling operation and had been monitoring the suspects closely.

Upon reaching the border fence, the two smugglers were spotted by BSF personnel from the 56th Battalion. As the BSF personnel approached, the smugglers attempted to escape back into Bangladesh. During their retreat, they discarded two gold bars, each weighing 1100 grams, which were later recovered by the BSF. The gold bars, wrapped in plastic, were seized by the BSF and have an estimated value of 90 lakh rupees.

The recovered gold was handed over to the Tehatta Customs Division for further investigation. Sources confirmed that the smugglers had crossed approximately 100 meters into Indian territory before they were pursued by the BSF. The interception of this smuggling attempt highlights the ongoing efforts by the BSF to prevent cross-border smuggling activities at the India-Bangladesh border. The authorities have strengthened surveillance to curb such illegal activities in the future.
