Patients seeking bone operations in government hospitals will now benefit from the Ayushman Bharat scheme as the process for free treatment becomes more accessible. Bone surgeries in district hospitals, such as Coronation Hospital, will soon be completely cashless, including the cost of implants, which were previously a financial burden for patients.
For the past six years, orthopedic patients were unable to fully utilize the Ayushman Bharat scheme as they had to purchase implants themselves, costing anywhere from ₹10,000 to ₹50,000. The absence of a tender process for implants led to patients being excluded from cashless treatment under the scheme. This also caused a decline in orthopedic surgeries at district hospitals, with an increasing number of patients being referred to Doon Hospital.
The state government and health department, under instructions from the minister, have now initiated the tender process to procure implants. Dr. V.S. Chauhan, PMS of the hospital, confirmed that steps are being taken to ensure patients no longer need to arrange implants themselves.
This move is expected to reduce the pressure on larger hospitals and allow district hospitals to offer cashless treatment to more patients. Orthopedic surgeries, which had dwindled due to financial constraints, are expected to see a significant rise as the Ayushman scheme is fully implemented in the orthopedics department.
The initiative marks a major milestone in improving healthcare accessibility under the Ayushman Bharat scheme. Patients, especially from economically weaker backgrounds, will benefit from the reduced financial strain and improved access to quality treatment at government hospitals.
The hospital administration has assured that once the tender process is finalized, patients will start receiving the full benefits of the Ayushman Bharat scheme for bone operations, ensuring a smoother and more inclusive healthcare experience.
