Youth dies after alleged beating at South Garia drug rehab, family vandalizes centre in protest
Park Street Police Station arrested a Bangladeshi national, Salim Mohammad, from Marquis Street in the Park Street area of Kolkata. Salim Mohammad, a resident of Madaripur in Bangladesh, had been residing in India under a false identity.
Police sources revealed Salim, a known BNP leader in Bangladesh, fled his home country two years ago amid political unrest with the ruling Awami League. Since arriving in India, he had assumed the name Ravi Sharma and procured fake Aadhaar cards and other identification documents to substantiate his new identity. Using these falsified records, he even managed to acquire an Indian passport.
Salim Mohammad worked at a local hotel on Marquis Street during his stay in Kolkata. His arrest highlights a broader concern regarding the ease of document forgery and illegal immigration.
Authorities are investigating how Salim managed to obtain the forged documents and whether he received local assistance. The police are also probing his activities in India to determine if there were any links to larger criminal or political networks. Salim is currently in police custody, and further legal proceedings are underway.
