Anubrata Mondal has been officially confirmed as the Chairman of the Birbhum core committee by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. This announcement came during a meeting at Kalighat, which marked the resolution of ongoing discussions regarding his position within the committee. Mondal, a prominent leader of the Trinamool Congress (TMC), has been at the center of internal debates over his role in the party's local structure.
Before the confirmation, there were conflicting statements regarding Mondal’s position within the core committee. Bikash Ray Chowdhury, the convenor of the Birbhum core committee, had stated that Mamata Banerjee had appointed Mondal as the chairman. However, Kajol Sheikh, a political figure with rival factions in the district, contradicted this by asserting that Mondal had only been made a member of the core committee, not the chairman. This led to uncertainty over the leadership of the committee.
Anubrata Mondal himself addressed the confusion by confirming that Mamata Banerjee had instructed him to lead the committee. According to Mondal, the Chief Minister had told him, "You are the chairman. You have to work with everyone." This statement clarified the issue and solidified Mondal's position as the leader of the Birbhum core committee.
With the confirmation, Mondal now has authority over the Birbhum district's political affairs, which include overseeing the functioning of the core committee. His appointment ensures continuity in leadership for the district, where he has been a key figure in TMC politics. Mamata Banerjee’s decision to formalize Mondal’s role comes as part of efforts to maintain organizational structure and leadership in various regions of West Bengal.
