Agra man, 22, attempts suicide after breakup, saved after Instagram video triggers police rescue

A 22-year-old man in Agra, Uttar Pradesh, attempted suicide by drinking mosquito repellent after a breakup with his girlfriend. The man, a resident of Sati Nagar Narayach in the Trans Yamuna area, had been living alone in a rented room while preparing for competitive exams. According to police sources, he had been experiencing significant emotional distress after the breakup and had reportedly been depressed for several days.

On the morning of Saturday, November 9, the man posted a video on Instagram, where he was seen consuming mosquito repellent in front of the camera. In the video, he appeared to hesitate after taking the first sip but proceeded to drink two more sips. Afterward, he began showing signs of distress, clutching his stomach and visibly in pain. The video quickly gained attention from his followers, who became alarmed and alerted the local police.

The police received an alert about the video at approximately 3:30 a.m. and immediately dispatched officers to the man's location. Upon reaching the rented room, police officers found the man unresponsive and in severe discomfort. After knocking on the door and receiving no response, they had to break it down to enter the room. The man was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where medical staff began treatment to counteract the effects of the poison. His condition stabilized after the intervention.

The man, originally from outside Agra, had been staying in the city for several months to prepare for competitive exams. Authorities did not disclose the exact nature of his academic preparations but confirmed he had been living independently since the breakup. Police sources stated that the man’s emotional state had deteriorated significantly following the relationship’s end, contributing to the depression that led to the suicide attempt. The incident was promptly reported by the Trans Yamuna Police Station to higher authorities, and the police have confirmed that the man’s life was saved due to the swift action taken by both his followers and law enforcement.
