Congress-CPI(M) candidate Bayron Biswas wins by a margin of 22,980 votes in the Sagardighi bypoll after bagging 87,611 total votes. TMC's Debashish Banerjee got 64,631 while BJP's Dilip Shah gets 25,793 votes. TMC has been winning this seat since 2011 and finally, Congress has won in West Bengal after their poor performance in the 2017 West Bengal Assembly polls.
In terms of vote share, Congress managed to get 47.4% while Trinamool was reduced to 34.94%. BJP managed to get 13.94% votes. Bayron Biswas was backed by the CPI(M) which resulted in Left voters voting for him.
Earlier, Bengal Congress Chief Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury stated that Mamata Banerjee is not invincible, and Sagardighi is just a part of the larger picture. He also expressed gratitude to the Left party for their support. Despite the BJP's loss, their workers were also seen celebrating outside their party office due to Trinamool's defeat.
