Mercury to drop 3 degrees in Bengal in next 2 days, says MeT
A devastating fire broke out late last night at Sinha Bazar located in Bhattanagar of Liluah in Howrah district, damaging at least 30 shops. At around 3.30 am, the fire started and two fire tenders were immediately engaged in trying to douse it. Unfortunately, 10-12 shops were completely gutted while many more shops suffered partial damage.
The cause of the fire is not yet known, but it is suspected to be a short circuit. Locals immediately tried to extinguish the fire by pouring water from their homes upon seeing the burning shops. The market sells a variety of goods, including vegetables, fish, and flowers. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
Upon receiving news of the fire, Howrah Fire Brigade officer Subrata Bhattacharya arrived at the scene with two fire engines, and the blaze was finally extinguished. "About a dozen of shops have been completely destroyed in fire. The fire tenders have managed to bring the flames in control", he said.
Although no casualties were reported, the shopkeepers are devastated by the huge damage caused just before the festival of Holi. The Liluah market is one of the major markets in the area, and the incident has saddened residents. Currently, the situation is under control.
