Mamata calls urgent meeting at Nabanna tomorrow, key administrative officials to attend
On Wednesday afternoon, a fire broke out on the 16th floor of Diamond Plaza Arcade, a multi-storey building in the Nagerbazar area of Dumdum. The fire burned for approximately an hour, and the fire department initially had difficulty reaching the source of the incident.
However, with the help of a 42-meter-long ladder, the fire brigade was able to bring the fire under control. Early reports suggested that the fire may have been caused by a gas cylinder explosion. The building, which is primarily residential, experienced flames emanating from an air conditioning unit on the 16th floor.
Black smoke could be seen coming out of other windows in that flat as well. 10 fire engines were dispatched to the scene, and a special firefighting ladder was used to reach the source of the fire from outside the building.
All of the residents of the building evacuated due to the flames, and one woman reported that four people were initially trapped on the terrace but were safely rescued. Fire and Emergency Services Minister Sujit Bose arrived at the scene and provided guidance to the fire brigade personnel working to extinguish the fire.
