Youth dies after alleged beating at South Garia drug rehab, family vandalizes centre in protest
The Adenovirus outbreak in Kolkata is causing a significant crisis, with another child losing their life to the virus. The deceased child, Aditya Das, was just six months old and had a pre-existing heart condition.
He was receiving treatment for a heart defect when he was admitted to a hospital on February 5th. Due to his deteriorating condition, Aditya was transferred to Kolkata Medical College and Hospital on February 23rd.
The doctors discovered that Aditya was already infected with the Adenovirus and had a cold. He was immediately admitted to the High Dependency Unit for treatment.
However, he suffered a cardiac arrest, and his other organs failed, leading to his passing on Tuesday morning. Hospital authorities have yet to confirm whether Aditya's death resulted from the Adenovirus.
Since the outbreak of the Adenovirus, 18 children, including those in South Bengal, have died. Children with respiratory issues are being hospitalized in different districts, leading to significant concern in the health department. The deaths of children due to cough and fever have caused panic among the public.
Health officials have stated that not all deaths in the state are due to Adenovirus, with most being caused by pneumonia. The state's health department is deeply troubled by the situation and working to address the issue.
