Bihar police thrashes father of Galwan martyr over building a memorial for son on Govt land

Police in Bihar's Vaishali reportedly beat up and then detained the father of Galwani martyr Jai Kishore Singh for erecting a monument to his son on public land.

According to a report, the brother of a soldier who laid down his life in the Galwan conflict said, “Madam DSP visited us and told us to remove the statue within 15 days. Later, the head of the police station came to our house and arrested my father and also beat him. I am also a member of the armed forces.”

Poonam Kesari, police officer for Mahua, said that after the walls surrounding the statue were built, the rights of the landowner were violated. "On January 23, a case was registered under the SC/ST Act regarding the erection of a statue on Hari Nath Ram land and on government land in Jandaha," she said. Subsequently, the walls surrounding the monument were built. Unauthorized intervention violates the rights of landowners, SDPO continued.

Besides, the SDPO said, “The land where the statue was erected belongs to the Bihar government. A road passes through this land, in the vicinity of which the defendant and the complainant also have their own parcels of land. The land of the person attacking the monument passes through the land on which the monument is built. No permission was taken for the construction of the monument, thus violating his rights. "He (the father) would build the statute on his own land; he has enough land, or he would buy the land from the government."
