Calcutta HC allows suit against attack on Nisith Pramanik, hearing likely next week

The Calcutta High Court has granted permission to the BJP to file a case regarding the attack on Union Minister of State for Home Nisith Pramanik's convoy in Dinhata, Cooch Behar. The attack, which reportedly involved bombs, bullets, and stone pelting, raised concerns about the state of law and order in West Bengal, prompting the BJP to seek legal recourse.

Representing the BJP, advocate Suryanil Das brought the matter before Chief Justice Prakash Srivastava's division bench, which granted permission to file the suit. The case is expected to be heard this week by a division bench comprising Chief Justice Prakash Srivastava and Justice Rajarshi Bhardwaj.

Yesterday, West Bengal Governor CV Ananda also condemned the attack in strong words saying that Raj Bhawan will not sit mute if the law and order situation worsens. He even summoned an action-taken report on the incident from the authorities.

On Saturday, Union Minister Nisith visited Dinhata as part of a pre-announced program to meet with BJP workers and tour various areas. However, when his convoy reached the Burirhat area, Trinamool workers reportedly showed black flags, leading to a tense situation. There were also allegations that stones were thrown, causing damage to the Union Minister's car. Nisith has claimed that the attack was an attempt on his life.
