Speeding bus mows down pedestrian at MG Road more, driver flee
West Bengal Governor Dr. CV Ananda Bose has strongly condemned the recent attack on Union Minister of State (Home Affairs) Nisith Pramanik and emphasized the need for strict action against those who take the law into their own hands. Following confidential inquiries into the matter and a personal discussion with the Union Minister, Dr. Bose expressed shock that such incidents could occur in a land known for its refined culture and civilized conduct.
He reminded the public that while a protest is a part of democracy, violence has no place in a civilized society. The Governor vowed to root out anti-social elements that engage in violent behavior and promised to maintain law and order with an iron fist in a velvet glove. He reiterated that the constitution should be upheld by all and that officers in the police, magistracy and any other government agency must do their duty without fear or favor.
Dr. Bose warned that any laxity in maintaining law and order would lead to chaos and anarchy, which would never be tolerated. He stated that under no circumstances would unruly elements and hooligans be allowed to hold society to ransom. As the Governor, he declared that it was his duty to ensure that West Bengal does not slip into a "soft state" and that rule of law would be established with an iron fist in a velvet glove. Democracy would not be allowed to degenerate into mobocracy.
The government will take immediate and perceptible action against criminals and uphold the rule of law. Timely and decisive action will also be initiated to prevent problems in the future. Dr. Bose called for an action-taken report to be submitted immediately by the responsible law enforcement authorities.
The Governor stated that he would not be a mute witness to any deterioration of law and order in the state and that strong and effective intervention would follow to ensure that the rot is stemmed at the root and peace and harmony restored.
