West Bengal has received some good news in the education sector. According to the Basic Education and Mathematical Literacy in Schools report released by the Prime Minister's Office Committee, West Bengal has once again secured the top position in primary education, outperforming other states including Uttar Pradesh.
This report, considered a scorecard of educational development across India, is published by the Prime Minister's Economic Advisory Council, ranking the states based on the type of education they provide. In the 2023 report, West Bengal is ranked as the leader in education for children under the age of 10, while Punjab is the top state in terms of overall education, with a score of 64.19. West Bengal is second on the list with a score of 54.98, while Uttar Pradesh ranks last with a score of 37.46.
The states are evaluated based on five indicators, including educational management, access to learning facilities, student health, overall management, and quality of learning outcomes. West Bengal has scored well in all of these categories, and Education Minister Bratya Basu has shared this positive news on Twitter.
Despite corruption allegations, Trinamool MP Sougata Roy has defended the state's education system and credited its success to the government's efforts. He also criticized the BJP's lack of knowledge about education and praised West Bengal's quality of primary education.
