Jammu and Kashmir hit by 5.8 magnitude earthquake, no casualties reported
The West Bengal government provided a compensation cheque worth Rs 5 lakh to the family of Maharaj Ghat resident of Mantadari Gram Panchayat, whose boy died in an elephant attack.
Jalpaiguri District Magistrate Moumita Godara Basu and Rajganj MLA Khageshwar Rai visited the victim's family today to hand over the check to Vishnu Das, the deceased student Arjun Kumar Das's father.
Bishnu Das took his son to the examination center on his bike yesterday (Thursday) when an elephant attacked them in Maharaj Ghat, located in Mantadari Gram Panchayat of Rajganj block. As a result, Arjun Kumar Das lost his life in the attack.
The Siliguri Police Commissioner Akhilesh Kumar Chaturvedi, Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forests Ujjal Ghosh, Belakoba Ranger Sanjay Dutt, Rajganj BDO Pankaj Konar, and other officials were present during the cheque handover ceremony.
