Violence erupts in Kolkata as Hindu Jagran Manch protest clashes with police; Officer injured
On Friday, there was a fire scare on a Kolkata Metro train running from Dakshinashwar to New Garia. Smoke was reportedly spotted coming out of the train carriage while it was at Rabindra Sadan station, causing panic among passengers. The incident occurred at around 12:15 PM and passengers were swiftly evacuated from the train.
Metro Rail authorities have since removed the affected train carriage and are bringing in new ones to ensure passengers can continue their journeys to New Garia. However, the cause of the smoke is still unknown and is currently being investigated.
Passengers who witnessed the smoke coming from the train carriage were understandably frightened and alerted the station staff.
Kolkata Metro Railway Chief Public Relations Officer Kaushik Mitra has commented on the incident, stating that while smoke was detected, it was not a major incident and passengers were evacuated safely. He further emphasized that passenger safety is of utmost importance and that the cause of the smoke needs to be investigated, possibly due to a technical fault.
