Air India Express Flight IX 385 made an emergency landing at Thiruvananthapuram Airport on Friday around 12.15 pm. A full emergency was declared at the Thiruvananthapuram airport to facilitate landing. The flight to Dammam was diverted due to a suspected tail strike and hydraulic failure.
The flight circled over Thiruvananthapuram for almost an hour to defuel to facilitate an emergency landing.
The flight took off from Calicut airport at 9.14 am. The pilot reportedly requested permission to land at the Thiruvananthapuram airport after a suspected hydraulic failure. A total of 176 passengers and six crew members were on board. Although it was expected to land at 11:03 a.m., it circled above the sea for several minutes to dump fuel to reduce weight before an emergency landing.
