A new women's police station has opened in Survey Park, South Kolkata, two weeks ahead of International Women's Day. The station aims to prevent crime against women and increase their sense of security in the West Bengal capital. With the addition of the Survey Park Women Police Station, there are now a total of nine women's police stations in Kolkata.
The Survey Park Women's Police Station will be staffed by 31 women police personnel, including one inspector, five sub-inspectors, five assistant sub-inspectors, constables, and civilian volunteers.
Previously, the East Division of Kolkata Police did not have a women's police station under its jurisdiction. Now, women living between Panchsaare and Pragati Maidan can go to the Survey Park police station instead of Lalbazar.
According to a police officer, women often feel more comfortable reporting certain types of crimes to women police officers. This initiative aims to instill confidence in victims and encourage them to report crimes against them.
