Allu Arjun gets interim bail by high court in Pushpa 2 stampede case
Jailed TV actor Sheezan Khan, arrested for allegedly aiding the suicide of his co-star Tunisha Sharma, on Monday applied for bail in the Vasai sessions court in Maharashtra's Palghar district, his lawyer said.
Counsel Sharad Rai said that they had earlier filed a bail application in the Bombay High Court, but now they withdrew the plea from there and recalled to the sessions court. According to him, the application stated that since the charge sheet in the case had been filed and the police investigation concluded, Khan, arrested in late December and now in jail in judicial custody, should be granted bail.
District and Sessions Judge SM Deshpande is likely to hear the bail plea on February 23, Rai said. The Mira-Bhayandar Vasai-Virar (MBVV) police on February 16 filed a 500-page charge sheet in the sessions court in the case where Khan was arrested under Indian Penal Code (IPC) section 306 (inciting suicide).
A conviction under the section is punishable by up to ten years in prison. Sharma, 21, was found hanging on the sets of a TV serial near Valiv in Palghar district on the outskirts of Mumbai on December 24.
Khan and Sharma were in a relationship, but later broke up. Once the indictment is filed, the judge draws up the charges and the trial begins.
