On the occasion of Shivratri, a gas cylinder explosion near a crowded temple in the Himnagar area under the Dankuni police station in West Bengal's Hooghly district injured at least five people, including a woman and a child, on Saturday evening.
The incident occurred when a function was going on in the temple and several shopkeepers were also present with their goods. One of the traders was selling balloons filled with gas when the cylinder filling the gas in the balloon exploded with a loud bang, causing panic in the area.
The injured were immediately rescued and taken to the local hospital for treatment. According to a resident of a nearby house, the explosion was so strong that the window panes of his house were shattered. The police are now searching for the gas balloon trader who caused the accident.
The incident caused panic among the common people who attended the program. The police have started an investigation into the matter. It is noteworthy that a similar incident in the South 24 Parganas district a few days ago resulted in the death of four people.
