One of the main culprits of the Jamtara gang, which is known for engaging in credit card fraud, has been arrested by the Bidhannagar Cyber Crime Police. The account holder, Masiul Sarkar, was apprehended from the Hare Street area in Kolkata.
As per police sources, the arrest came about following a complaint lodged by an elderly resident of AB Block in Salt Lake, who had fallen victim to the gang's fraudulent activities. The victim had obtained a credit card from a private bank and subsequently searched for the customer care number online. He received a call from someone posing as an employee of the credit card company who obtained his login credentials and stole 2 lakhs from his bank account.
During the course of the investigation, the police discovered that the Jamtara gang was behind the crime. By tracing the source of the stolen money, they were able to identify Masiul Sarkar as the account holder. Acting on information received from sources, the police located and apprehended him in the Hare Street area. He will be presented before the Bidhannagar court, where the police will request that he be remanded in their custody for further questioning.
