Speeding bus mows down pedestrian at MG Road more, driver flee
At least 36 migrant workers from Jharkhand have been stranded in Tajikistan in the last two months, and the state government is trying to ensure their safe return, an official said.
Communicating with family members through social media, the workers alleged that the company engaging them in laying power lines confiscated their passports, provided meager food and no money at all, said social worker Sikandar Ali, who brought the case on the notice of the authorities, he said.
They left for the Central Asian country on December 19 last year after the company's agents operating in India promised them a decent salary, he said. The workers are from Hazaribag, Bokaro and Giridih districts.
Hazaribag Deputy Commissioner Nancy Sahay told that she had received complaints from the relatives of the stranded laborers that they were forced to lead a life similar to that of the labourers.
"Based on the complaints, I have informed the State Migration Cell to take up the matter with the relevant authorities and find avenues for the release and safe return of the laborers to their native places as soon as possible," Sahay said.
