For speedy recovery of patients, the surgery department of King George Medical University is planning to introduce robotic surgery, said Professor AA Sonkar, HoD surgeon at KGMU while addressing a press conference here on Monday.
We would go for cheaper robots to perform some operations with their help. The usual price is between ₹25-30 million, but we would go for the ones that cost around ₹15 million. The advantage will be a quick recovery," said Dr. Sonkar.
The department celebrates its 111th foundation day on February 18. On this occasion, a 4-day CME on 'Surgical Education Program (SEP) 2023' is being organized from 14th to 17th February. The scientific program during the Foundation Day celebration will include three keynote addresses and one guest lecture by nationally recognized surgeons.
Prof. Sonkar said that last year's big achievement is also the increase in the number of PG seats from 15 to 24. This year, there has been an increase in footfall and OPD admissions in the department and a significant increase in the number of surgeries performed. The department has accommodated more than 50,000 OPD patients, admitted more than 9,000 patients last year.
