CP Radhakrishnan, a senior BJP politician and former MP from Coimbatore, was appointed as the Governor of Jharkhand on Sunday (February 12). He replaces Ramesh Bias, who has been appointed as the Governor of Maharashtra.
Born in 1967, he is one of the oldest and most respected BJP leaders from the south and Tamil Nadu and has been associated with the group for 48 years, starting with the RSS and the Jan Sangh when he was 16, in 1973.
Radhakrishnan was elected to the Lok Sabha in the 1998 and 1999 general elections for two terms. He won the 1999 general election by a margin of 55,000 votes after winning by 1,50,000 votes in 1998. Without the help of DMK or AIADMK, C.P. Radhakrishnan received 3,89,000 votes from the Coimbatore Lok Sabha constituency in the 2014 general election and came second.
In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Radhakrishnan polled 3,92,007 votes and came second in the Coimbatore Lok Sabha seat. C. P. Radhakrishnan, also known as CPR in BJP circles, served as Kerala BJP's Prabhari during the last assembly elections in 2021.
In addition, he served as the Chairman of the All India Coir Board, the MSME department of the Government of India. He is also the former state president of the party for Tamil Nadu.
He is currently the National Executive Member of the Bharatiya Janata Party and has been appointed by the Kerala BJP High Command Prabhari (Commander).
