Teacher found hanging in Bihar school

The teacher was found hanging in a school in Sikti in Bihar's Araria district on Thursday evening, prompting demands for a high-level investigation. Police said a team was rushed to the school shortly after being informed about the incident by the school management.

"The body was found hanging from a ceiling fan in a room at Amgachhi High School and the body was later sent to Araria District Hospital for post-mortem," Sub-Inspector (SI) Safeek Khan said, adding that the police would investigate the incident from all angles.

He said the deceased was identified as Gopal Kesri, a resident of Uchla village under Meerganj police station in Gopalganj district. School principal Sharan Dev Paswan said the deceased had joined the school in 2014 and was under some stress for the past few weeks. "He has been pushing for a transfer for the last few months," he added.

Police said the teacher's wife also worked as a teacher at a nearby school, and they have a three-year-old son.

District teachers' union president Aftab Firoz has demanded a high-level inquiry into the incident. "We cannot believe the suicide theory and want the incident to be investigated," he said.
