SC halts mosque survey orders, restricts lower courts in pending cases
Five people who allegedly threw acid on a man engaged to the main accused's girlfriend have been arrested, police said on Wednesday.
A car, a motorcycle and an empty acid bottle were found. The accused called a taxi driver Shubham to a bus stand in Gopali Adda village on the Muzaffarnagar-Deoband border on Monday and threw acid on him, Senior Superintendent of Police (City) Abhimanyu Manglik said.
After receiving information about the incident, a police team from Deoband reached the spot and admitted the victim in the hospital. Police nabbed the accused on the basis of CCTV footage on Tuesday evening.
The prime accused, identified as Uday alias Bhola of Muzaffarnagar, was in a relationship with a woman for the past six months. However, she had recently become engaged to the victim, Manglik said. Uday hatched a conspiracy against Shubham with six friends, the officer said.
While five accused have been arrested, two others are being sought, Manglik added.
