SC halts mosque survey orders, restricts lower courts in pending cases
A woman and her deaf-mute daughter were burnt to death after a fire broke out in their house in Amritpur village under Khunti police station limits in Khunti district on Monday-Tuesday night, police said.
The deceased have been identified as Sushana Kachhap (70) and Pushpa Kachhap (35). Sushana's sister Salomi, who was also present in the house, managed to escape, police added.
Salomi told police she woke up Tuesday morning to find her room filled with smoke thinking her relatives had run away and left her alone, she began abusing them while rescuing the goats.
Khunti subdivision police officer (SDPO) Amit Kumar said, “The cause of the fire appears to be a short circuit. There were many loose wires hanging around the place. The bodies have been sent for autopsy."
