BJP not anti-Muslim, Mithun Chakraborty defends his party

The BJP has started wooing the minorities in view of the upcoming panchayat elections in West Bengal. Following in the footsteps of BJP leader Dilip Ghosh, BJP leader and actor Mithun Chakraborty said that BJP is not anti-Muslim. Chakraborty addressed the Muslims from the airport before leaving for the Tripura assembly election campaign. He said, “BJP has never been anti-Muslim; I want the welfare of my Muslim brothers and sisters.” On the other hand, TMC mocked the actor's statement and said that BJP is doing politics in the name of religion.

Panchayat elections are coming soon in West Bengal. Meanwhile, elections are also being held in Tripura and Meghalaya. All parties are gearing up for the Tripura elections. Mithun Chakraborty, Dilip Ghosh and Suvendu Adhikari left for the state on Friday morning. They have a lot of programs there. Asked if this is BJP's new strategy to win minority votes, the actor said, “Why are you saying that again? When was BJP anti-minority? The story was created to portray the BJP as anti-minority."

TMC spokesperson Kunal Ghosh mocked BJP's claim and said that BJP is not a friend of Hindus or Muslims. BJP is doing Hindutva politics, he said. The Trinamool Congress will win the votes of the common people. BJP is trying to divide people in the name of religion, he added.

The statements of BJP leaders, including Suvendu Adhikari, made it clear what they thought about Muslims, Ghosh said. He said, "BJP said during the elections that 30 per cent votes will not be needed, 70 per cent votes will be enough for them to win." “They pretend to be friends of minorities for their own sake. Do away with NRC and CAA first. There is no need to become a Muslim sympathizer. People in the state understand everything," he concluded.
